Salt Awareness Week

Next week sees the arrival of Salt Awareness Week. Run by the organisation Consensus Action on Salt (CASH), next week will see them highlighting the high volumes of salt that can often be found in food when you eat out. While the credit crunch might be encouraging a lot more of us to eat at home, when we do go out it is worth bearing in mind that some ofthe dishes can have almost the whole of the 6g of salt that it is recommended that we eat per day. Amazingly, there is often a great deal of salt to be found in deserts as well. The results of the research CASH have done will be available at the begining of next week and I will discuss them here. Suffice to say that when you are next thinking about going out - it might not just be the state of your wallet that keeps you in, but also the fact that you might just be dealt up a meal with a great deal of salt in - something that those of us with high blood pressure should be doing our best to avoid.
